How did you get involved in Toastmasters?

I attended an informational meeting at work — at the time, Acxiom Corporation. The support and diversity of fascinating people in the organization had me hooked from day one. I became a Charter member of AcxioMasters DG Toastmasters, its Corporate incarnation, in 1999.

What are your present goals for Toastmasters?

To continue honing my communication and leadership skills and sharing my experience, when called upon, with other newer members. For me, Toastmasters is a lifelong journey.

Tell us a bit about yourself. What do you do, for instance?

I am currently retired, but have worked in Marketing and Advertising Research, IT Customer Service and Delivery Management, as an Executive Administrator for a Chamber of Commerce, and Cost Engineer for one of the largest energy companies in Michigan.
But by far my most unusual job was as a singing telegram messenger (in 1982)! Ask me about it sometime. Lol.

Do you have any websites or social media channels?

Nope.

What is your educational background?

I have a BA in Sociology from Oakland University, Rochester MI. There, I became a Charter member of the Zeta Upsilon Chapter of National Sorority, Alpha Delta Pi — dedicated to Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Sisterhood. In ADPi, I served as Song Leader and Chaplain.

I also have an MS in Marketing from Northern Illinois University where I worked as a Marketing Teaching Assistant.

Is there anything else about you that you’d like others to know?

My involvement with Toastmasters over these last 20 + years includes service to my clubs in nearly all leadership positions, outside of my clubs as an Area Governor/Director, Club Mentor, Youth Leadership Facilitator, Conference Chair, as well as representative of my clubs competing in several speech contests and ultimately as Chicago District 30 Champion in Evaluation and Table Topics. Considering that the Grammarian counted more “uhms” than I care to confess at this time, the knowledge, confidence and friendships I’ve developed through Toastmasters has made my life so much richer than I could ever have imagined.
